An under-desk treadmill is the quiet, low-profile base you slide beneath a standing desk so you can walk while you work. No handrails, no bulky frame in the way — just a walking belt at your feet and a small console within reach. If you already have a height-adjustable desk, this is all you need to turn it into an active one.
What is an under-desk treadmill?
It's a treadmill stripped back to the essentials and built for hours rather than workouts. The deck sits low so it tucks under a raised desk, the top speed is held to a walking 6.4 km/h, and the motor is made to run all day without complaint. What matters most isn't speed — it's how long it can keep going. The TR1200 is rated for six hours a day, the TR5000 for nine. That daily rating is the number worth checking, and the one budget machines quietly leave off.

LifeSpan TR1200 Pro
The starting point: a 2.25 HP continuous-duty motor, a 51 × 127 cm belt, up to 159 kg user weight and six hours of use a day — quiet enough that you'll forget it's there. Choose the DT3-BT console for the essentials (time, distance, calories, steps), or the SC130 Smart Console, which adds a colour screen and syncs your sessions over Bluetooth.
LifeSpan TR5000 Pro
Built for the full working day: a 4.5 HP peak brushless motor, up to 181 kg user weight and nine hours of use. Six impact-absorbing shocks soften each step, Intelli-Step counts your steps without a wearable, and Intelli-Guard stops the belt the moment you step off. It arrives fully assembled. How to choose
- Hours per day — six covers most hybrid weeks; nine suits full-time desk walking or a shared office where more than one person uses it.
- Console — the DT3-BT keeps it simple; the SC130 adds a colour screen and Bluetooth sync.
- User weight — 159 kg on the TR1200, 181 kg on the TR5000.
- Noise — both run quiet, but the TR5000's six shocks make the biggest difference in a shared room.
Will it fit your desk?
Both bases are 160 cm long, 72 cm wide and 18 cm tall, with the walking surface 12 cm off the floor. In practice, your desk needs to raise about 12 cm higher than your normal standing height — worth measuring first, because it's the most common reason a base doesn't work out. Neither base folds, so allow for the full footprint where it will stay.
Don't have the right desk yet?
An under-desk treadmill needs a desk that raises high enough to walk under. If yours doesn't — or you're starting from scratch — you have two clean options: add one of our height-adjustable standing desks and pair it yourself, or skip the guesswork with a complete treadmill desk, where the base and desk are matched and delivered together.
Under-desk treadmill or walking pad?
Closer in size than the names suggest: a LifeSpan walking pad is 152 × 71 cm against 160 × 72 cm for a base. The difference is how they're meant to be used. An under-desk treadmill is part of a fixed workstation — it pairs with a desk, keeps a console within reach, and the TR5000 carries our longest daily rating at nine hours. A walking pad is self-contained, needs no assembly, and reaches 9.5 km/h, so it also handles a light jog and moves easily between rooms. Choose the base if the desk setup is the point; choose the pad if you want one machine that goes anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Do under-desk treadmills really work?
For turning a sitting day into a moving one, yes — that's exactly what they're designed to do, and the daily ratings back it up. They're not a substitute for a workout: the top speed is a walking 6.4 km/h. Most people type comfortably up to around 3 km/h and save the higher end for calls, reading and meetings.
Is a treadmill under a desk worth it?
If you sit for most of your working day and want to move more without finding extra time, it's one of the simplest ways to do it. The main things to get right are a desk that raises high enough and a machine rated for the hours you'll actually use — which is why we list uptime on every model.
How quiet is it?
Quiet enough for calls and shared offices. Both bases use a whisper-quiet motor and a cushioned deck; the TR5000 adds six impact-absorbing shocks to soften footfall further. Walking in soft-soled shoes at a steady pace keeps it quietest.
Are there any downsides?
Two worth knowing. Fine, precise tasks get harder above a slow walk, so most people drop to a stroll for detailed work. And your desk has to raise about 12 cm higher than usual, so the desk decides the setup as much as the treadmill does.
Do I need to assemble it?
The TR5000 Pro arrives fully assembled. For the TR1200 models, the assembly details are on each product page.
What does the guarantee cover?
Every base carries a lifetime frame-and-motor guarantee for home use, with five years on parts and two on labour. Placing one in an office or shared workspace? Commercial cover runs three years on the frame and motor. The full guarantee has the details.
